T-Shirt Tech Pack Template
A t-shirt looks simple, but small differences in neck width, rib height or sleeve length are exactly what a factory gets wrong when the spec is vague. This template gives you a complete starting point: 12 points of measure graded from XS to XXL, a bill of materials for a 180 GSM cotton jersey tee, and construction notes a sample maker can follow.
T-Shirt measurement spec (inches)
Graded XS–XXL with M as the base size. Switch to centimeters in the generator.

Construction notes
- Shoulder seams: 4-thread overlock, reinforced with neck tape across back neck.
- Neck rib: attached with 4-thread overlock, coverstitch topstitch 1/8" from seam.
- Side seams and sleeve seams: 4-thread overlock.
- Sleeve and bottom hems: 1" twin-needle coverstitch.
- Stitch density: 12-14 stitches per inch.
- Main label: centered at back neck, 1/4" below neck seam.
- Fabric must be pre-shrunk; max shrinkage 5% in length and width after 3 home washes.
Fabric
Jersey weight changes the whole garment. Around 140–160 GSM reads as a lightweight fashion tee, 180–200 GSM as a standard retail tee, and 220–260 GSM as a heavyweight boxy tee. If you change the weight, re-check body length and shrinkage on the first sample.
Tips before you send it to a factory
- Neck width and front neck drop decide whether the collar sits flat. Always check them on the sample, not only on paper.
- Write the shrinkage tolerance down. Cotton jersey that is not pre-shrunk can shrink noticeably after the first wash.
- For an oversized fit, widen the chest and body first, then drop the shoulder. Simply sizing up rarely looks intentional.
FAQ
What GSM is best for a t-shirt?
There is no single best weight. 180–200 GSM cotton jersey is a safe middle ground for a retail tee; go heavier for a structured streetwear look and lighter for summer or fashion styles.
Which measurements matter most?
Body length, chest width, shoulder width and sleeve length drive the fit. Neck width, neck drop and rib height drive how finished the tee looks.
